The instructions are intended for SAP ETL or Technical consultants who have basic experience with the configuration of SAP Basis, SAP DS ,AWS S3 and AWS IAM.
In this lab we will show you how to set up a solution for replicating data from SAP applications such as SAP S/4HANA or SAP Business Suite to Amazon S3 by using SAP Data Services (DS)
➡️ Application-level extractors like SAP Data Services extract data from SAP applications using integration frameworks in ABAP stack and store it in S3 through default connectors.
➡️ Using Remote Function Call (RFC SDK) libraries, these extractors are able to natively connect with SAP applications to pull data from remote function modules, tables, views, and queries.
➡️ You can use data replication in near real time or to consolidate the data from your SAP systems with data from multiple sources in AWS data lakes.
The Operational Data Provisioning(ODP) framework supports extraction and replication scenarios for various target SAP applications, known as subscribers. The subscribers retrieve the data from the delta queue for further processing.
Data gets replicated as soon as a subscriber requests the data from a data source through an ODP context. An Operational Data queue is used to maintain the different queues of data between publishers and subscribers. See SAP documentation to learn about ODP and ODQ framework.
Complete the below prerequisites before your start the SAP Data Services lab:
Create an AWS IAM role to provide full access for this bucket
Create AWS IAM user with programmatic access and attach the role to the user.
Download the access key and secret key information for the user. This is used to apply these credentials in SAP Data services.
We assume that you have access to SAP S/4HANA or SAP ECC Business Suite and SAP Data Services. Work with with your organization SAP admin to get necessary access to valid SAP systems.ß
